For its work, the Central Ministry of Environment and Forests awarded in 1999-2000 "Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award,1996" & "Excellency in Rural Development by FAG,1999" for outstanding contribution in environment protection and watershed development programmes. GRISERV owes its commitment of improving the life of rural poor to late Dr. Manibahi Deasi, as without his able guidance and leadership, this programme would not have been successful.

Gujarat Rural Institute for Socio Economic Reconstruction Vadodara
has achieved excellence in Rural Development Federation of Gujarat Industries, Baroda, has pleasure in conferring the Awards of Excellence on "Gujarat Rural Institute for Socio Economic Reconstruction Vadodara" (GRISERV), in reorganization of their commendable contribution in improving the quality of life and bringing self-reliance among rural families by being an instrument in rural development and transferring technology to the villages.
'GRISERV's integrated efforts since last 10 years in 12 districts of Gujarat for rural development through activities like livestock development , tribal rehabilitation, forestry ,women& child welfare, health care, up gradation of skills etc .have let an overall improvement in the social, cultural, health, hygiene, and moral environment of rural families.
Award includes a certificate with Rs.25,000/- cash.
Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award,1996
In 1985 and functioning in eleven districts of Gujarat. Its main aim is working for the socio-economic rehabilitation of the rural poor through the development of a meaningful relationship between the degraded natural resources, livestock and the people by application of appropriate technology.
This institute worked on 314.85 hectares of rocky, marshy ,sandy ,hilly, ravenous and undulation land and established 125 decentralized nurseries raising about 29lakh seedlings and distributing 27 lakh seedlings to the people . As many as 82 Gram Vikas Mandals ,44 Mahila Mandals,1180 youth Club user Groups and 274 self help groups have been formed by this Institute. A large number of workshops, seminars, meetings, training camps, and awareness camps have been organized.
The extensive afforestation and soil conservation work carried out by the institute under the Watershed Development Programme, Family based Horti-Forestry programme and the Tribal Rehabilitation programme have been widely appreciated.
In reorganization of the outstanding contribution of the Gujarat Rural Institute for Socio-Economic Reconstruction, Vadodara in the field of afforestation and wasteland development, it is awarded the Indira Priyadarshani Vrikshmitra Award for the year 1996 in the category "Voluntary Organisations".
Award includes a certificate with Rs.50,000/- cash.
